"Cancel-Casting" Attack Skills
Well, we all know the wave of failure that washes over when you're tanking out faintheartedness with a Warrior / Ranger, and you go to activate an attack skill and you can actually see the activation bar. On top of that, you watch a diversion hit you just as you activate crip-shot, bull's strike or the like...
Well today, I was going to GToB to see what PvP quest there was from the Zaishen, and I noticed someone spamming : "No one believes I can cancel my attack skills", "I'll pay you 1k if I can't do it, come to Isle of the Nameless". So I thought, what the heck, they'll probably do something stupid like auto attack and say they're actually cancelling.
So I tag along, he spears a dummy for a good minute whilst I watch them, they run up, axe in hand, frenzy, and Eviscerates a dummy. That's not the whole story though. The skill got cancelled, at what looked like a little more than half-way through the activation! They went on to re-build their adrenaline and did it another 2 or 3 times.
Needless to say I was amazed, and about to pay them 10k (and maybe bribe them to teach me ), but they left :/
tl;dr: Anyone know how to cancel attack skills?

Changing weapon via inventory midattack cancels it. I think. Maybe.

Ooh you're right, they probably had 2 of the same weapon, which is why I didn't notice it.

If that were true, playing a BB sin might actually be slightly difficult. As is you can just spam the weapon swap key mid-BB.

Careful though, you still lose your energy when canceling

The cancel action key does not cancel attack skills, only spells and skills.
Also, I wasn't playing 3.5 years ago, how would I know? -_-

you have to manually switch a weapon through your inventory to do this. the cancel action button won't do this. its primarily used by rangers to cancel bow attacks. you'll occasionally see this on obs mode, but its not common.

People did this more often when the common builds required a little more micro than tab hex tab hex.
Nowadays the average warrior doesnt even swap to elemental weapons anymore to attack other warriors..

Why do people not know such common things nowadays?
You can cancel your interrupts of you want to put enough effort into it.

Only time I bother to do this now is during ranger duels since most of their elites are so stupidly vulnerable to dshot. Not that I see anything other than melshot or the occasional crip.

Question answered. Avoid further one-liners of "that's so old," "you didn't know that?" etc.

Ah. I was already wondering if I became so bad at cancelling an interruptattack with esc. (or any attack for that matter).
Had it a lot with the stairs/bridge-bug (if it's a bug) where peope are suddenly not hittable with ranged attacks, because the view is supposed to be blocked...
Very annoying if you're spamming (it happens, pewpewturret yay :P) bow attacks and they get blocked. Though don't think i'm gonna make the effort of keeping invent open to switch weapons.
Btw, I think it also works on equipping another armor piece, as i was casting with sup smite yesterday, and wanted to change to sup prot for other ench's and the casting got cancelled. So it might be just the fact that you directly from inventory change your equipment that cancel's your current action (any action).
But this was probably common knowledge, and i just invented the wheel for only me =D.

i think the only time that trick was actually used was on BHA rangers and that for obvious reasons.

They never did. Pretty shocking people still don't do it considering how old this game is now.
This cancelling 'trick' was most useful during skirmishes involving opposing cripshots on either side. Whoever managed to get their own cripshot off while dshotting the other's had the potential to determine the outcome of the skirmish. Sadly, only very few rangers actually bothered to do this considering the potential benefits involved.
